About Papp Johnson

“Time. Some say it’s like a river. Others have described it as a flat circle.  While many others believe it's Matthew McConaughey trapped in a bookshelf    Whatever the case may be, one particular moment in time stood still for Papp Johnson. That’s on Apr. 15th, 2010, when the Oakland, CA native took to the stage for the first time and won Sony’s Death at a Funeral stand up competition… all while sitting down.     But it was truly much more than a singular moment; it was the culmination of a long journey of self-discovery for Papp. Until then, it was hoop dreams that filled the young man’s head and, given his 6’ 8”frame, it was probably the world’s expectation that the basketball floor would be where Papp built his legacy.    But contrary to conventional beliefs, being tall isn't all rainbows and white women… unless you’re in the NBA. Although his skill, heart and desire were evident, the fates had other plans for Papp and his knees. Refusing to let insult be added to injury, Papp decided to pivot toward his second love and make comedy his court.    From there, Papp would stand on his incredibly engaging storytelling ability and mind-bending punchlines and stride onward to Los Angeles, where his legend grew even bigger following several festival appearances (SF Sketchfest, Treefort Comedy Festival, 1865 festival).     And if you think Papp looks and sounds familiar, you might recognize him from one of his many commercials for Dunkin Donuts, Samsung, Fox Sports or one of his appearances on shows such as “Black-ish”, “That Damn Michael Che” or “Wu-Tang: An American Saga”. “    With Timeless, Papp Johnson shares with you his uniquely hilarious perspective on life, death, race, social graces, parenting, sex, relationships and more. And when he puts some of your favorite political and pop culture icons under his comedic lens, you’ll never think of them in the same way again. Best of all, Papp is unafraid to look in the mirror and poke fun at his own insecurities, giving you more to experience than just jokes. Delivered in a laid back, easy going style that’s all his own.    Whether you’ve experienced his talents on stage or screen, or you’re hearing him for the first time, there’s no denying that Papp Johnson’s comedy is forever.”
